Walk Britain, with Elise Downing

Back in 2015, when she was just 23 years old, Elise Downing announced that she was going to attempt to run 5000 miles around the coast of Great Britain, carrying her kit on her back—which came as quite a surprise to everyone, including herself!

Ten months after setting out, she became the first woman and youngest person to run a lap of Great Britain self-supported. 

Elise Downing came to the Isle of Man for the 2023 Manx Litfest, to talk about her first book ‘Coasting’, an account of her amazing acheivement. She was so enamoured by the island, that it gets its own chapter in her latest book ‘Walk Britain’. Elise is back again this year to talk about the book, the walks within it, and what in particular drew her to write about the incredible walks that the island has to offer.

We loved welcoming Elise to Manx Litfest 2023, and we are over the moon that she is joining us again this year, for an event at Government House.
